Max Peter Baumann

Max Peter Baumann (born January 15, 1944 in Altdorf , Canton Uri , Switzerland ) is a Swiss ethnomusicologist , music anthropologist and editor of the magazine world of music .

Career

Max Peter Baumann studied musicology, German and folklore at the University of Bern . He became a music folkore and musical folklorism work. An ethnomusicological study on the functional change of yodelling is doing his doctorate . From 1976 to 1982 he worked as an assistant professor at the Institute for Comparative Musicology at the Free University of Berlin. In 1982 he was appointed professor at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg . Between 1985 and 1986 he was a visiting professor at Columbia University in New York, before he was director of the International Institute for Traditional Music in Berlin for ten years. Since 1997 he has been professor of ethnomusicology at the University of Bamberg again. From 2007 until his retirement in 2009, Baumann was Professor at the Institute for Music Research at the University of Würzburg. In 2017 he received the Honorary Ruth for his research .

Max Peter Baumann mainly dealt with the theory and methods of ethnomusicology (especially ethnomusicological field research ), with music in the age of globalization and the cultural anthropology of hearing.

Max Peter Baumann carried out numerous ethnomusicological field research in Ethiopia, Argentina, Bavaria, Bolivia, Brazil, Portugal, Japan, USA, South Korea and Switzerland.
