Life

Römer was born in 1878 as the son of Carl Heinrich Wilhelm and Maria Sophia Catharina Römer and was baptized on December 25, 1879 in the Lutheran St. Peter's Church in Hamburg. On May 24, 1902, he married Louise Kätchen Parizot, whom he had previously met in the company "Ledertechnik Holbe". Together they had five children (Max, Rolf Reinhold, Anita, Valeska Melati), one of whom died eight days after the birth.

Römer did his military service from 1915 to 1918 during World War I , fighting on the front in Champagne , the Somme , Romania , Greece and Macedonia .

After his wife fell ill, Römer decided to move to Madeira in 1922 because of the climate and the recommendation of a Danish friend. There he created a variety of watercolors that show typical life and the landscape on the island. In addition, he created advertising posters for hotels and celebrations in the capital. From March 15 to November 30, 2013, the Center for Modern Art ( Centro das Artes - Casa das Mudas ) in Calheta presented an exhibition of Roman's works.
