Max Richards ( October 19, 1859 in Leipzig - February 1932 ) was a German theater actor , opera singer ( tenor ), theater director and director .

Life

Richards, the son of a bank clerk, decided after he had repeatedly performed successfully in the Thalia theater association to take up the stage career.

He took lessons from the opera singer Friedrich Rebling and took the stage at the Leipzig City Theater for the first time in 1879, where he also found engagement. At first he worked as an actor, as a teenage hero and lover. "Melchthal", "Mortimer" and "Romeo" were among his popular depictions. He later switched to opera and worked as a tenor buffo , such as "Veit", "Iwanoff" etc. He also achieved success in operetta ( Der Bettelstudent ).

After Richards had worked as an actor and singer at several large city theaters, he took over the management of a stage and directed a. a. from 1890 to 1897 the City Theater in Poznan. In the last year he took over the management of the city theater in Halle, where he remained until 1915. Richards held the title of Privy Councilor.

Honors

Max-Richards-Strasse in Halle is named after him.
