Max Vogrich
Max Wilhelm Carl Vogrich (born January 24, 1852 in Sibiu , Transylvania in the Austrian Empire , † June 10, 1916 in New York ) was an Austrian pianist and composer .
Life
As a child prodigy , he was a celebrated pianist at the age of 14. He studied in Leipzig with Carl Reinecke , Hans Richter , Moritz Hauptmann , Wenzel and Ignaz Moscheles . He completed his studies in 1869. From 1870 to 1878 he went on concert tours throughout continental Europe, South America and the United States. From 1882 to 1886 he went on concert tours to Australia and taught there. He then went to New York, where he lived until his death.
Works
His works include the operas Vanda (1875), Lancelot (1890), King Arthur (1893), and Buddha (1904), an oratorio: The Captivity (1891). Also the cantata: The Young King and the Sheperdess, and The Diver. Various masses, symphonies, violin and piano concerts and sonatas. He continued to write duets, songs and chamber music.
