Maxim Ivanovich Newsorow ( Russian Максим Иванович Невзоров * 1762 or 1763 in Ryazan † September 27, jul. / 9. October  1827 greg. In Moscow ) was a Russian poet and publicist.

Life

Newsorov came from the clergy. He lost his father at an early age. He received his training first at the Ryazan seminary. In the years 1779–1788 he studied at the medical and law faculty of Moscow University , sponsored by the "Druscheskoje utschonoje obschtschestvo" ( Дружеское учёное общество , for example "Scientific Society of Friends"), and was awarded gold medals twice by both faculties. Thanks to the protection of NI Novikov and IW Lopukhin, he was sent abroad to complete his studies and returned in 1792 as a doctor of medicine from the University of Leiden .

On his return in 1792 he was arrested for " martinistic activities" and locked up in the Peter and Paul Fortress , after which he was admitted to a psychiatric institution. In 1798 he was released from the hospital.

Under Alexander I he again approached the Freemasons . From 1801 he held several offices at Moscow University, from 1803 he was a member of the university's censorship committee, from 1805 he was head of the university printing press; he was released from this post in 1815 for insubordination .

Newsorow was an admirer of German philosophy and possessed extensive knowledge, but was not characterized by special poetic talent; his odes and elegies - the earliest dating from 1799 - are considered to be pretty bad. Some were published in the magazine "Minerva" ( Минерва ). The odes, which were created under the influence of the war events of 1812–1814 , are somewhat better . He placed them in various periodicals.

Newsorow owes his literary fame to the magazine "Freund der Jugend" (Друг юношества, 1807–1815), which was published by him and almost exclusively written by him. The articles that were published dealt mainly with questions of upbringing and education and were of a mystical-religious character. His description, Journey to Kazan , Vyatka and Orenburg in 1800, which he wrote when he accompanied IW Lopukhin on a senatorial inspection tour, is of interest . In the years 1813-1814 he also published the "Historical, Statistical and Geographic Journal", in which he published articles on historical topics.

Newsorov is buried in Moscow's Simonov Monastery .
