Maxim Leonardowitsch Shevchenko ( Russian Макси́м Леона́рдович Шевче́нко ; born  February 22, 1966 in Moscow ) is a Russian journalist, television presenter and public figure. Since 2012 he has been a member of the Human Rights Council of the Russian President . He was also represented in the Civil Chamber of the Russian Federation for the second and third convocation (2008–2012).

Life

Shevchenko graduated from a special school with in-depth knowledge of the German language . He studied at the Faculty of "Engineering and Systems Analysis of Microelectronic Devices" of the Moscow State Aviation Institute , which he graduated in 1990. From 1989 to 1991 he worked as a special correspondent in the newspaper " Westnik (Information Sheet ) of Christian Democracy" published by the Christian Democratic Union of Russia . Between 1993 and 1995 Shevchenko taught "History of Russia and Western Europe" in the orthodox high school " Radonesch Jasenowo " (Радонеж-Ясенево). He continued his independent journalistic career in the following years in the newspapers “First September” (1992–1995), “ Nezavisimaya Gazeta ” (1995–2002) and in the magazine “Sinn” (Смысл). At the same time he worked as war correspondent for Nezavisimaya Gazeta in Afghanistan , Pakistan , Chechnya , Dagestan , Yugoslavia , Israel and Palestine .

During the 2004 presidential elections in Ukraine , Shevchenko worked at Viktor Yanukovych's headquarters . From October 2005 to June 2011 he hosted the authoritative talk show "Sudite sami" (Judge it for yourself) on the semi-state television station Perwy Kanal (Первый канал). In 2008 he was awarded the “ Russian Golden Feather ” media prize for his outstanding moderation skills in the program Sudite sami .

In September 2009, Shevchenko was refused a visa application for entry to Georgia within the framework of the “Public Commission for the Elimination of the Humanitarian Consequences of the Georgian-Russian Conflict”.

In 2010 Shevchenko took over the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Politics of the Caucasus". In 2012 he moderated the program “W Kontekste” (In Context) on the Perwy Kanal. In September 2015, he switched to the TV station NTW .

Shevchenko is the confidante of Pavel Grudinin , the supporter of the Communist Party of Russia , whose candidacy he supported in the 2018 presidential elections .
