Maximilian Alfred von Krieger

Maximilian Alfred von Krieger (born November 11, 1824 in Peukendorf ( Schwarzburg-Sondershausen ), † August 4, 1898 in Gotha ) was royal Prussian lieutenant general and most recently the commander of the 7th field artillery brigade.

His parents were Christoph Leonhard von Krieger (* July 17, 1774; † July 4, 1854) and his wife Friederike Karoline von Selchow (* June 16, 1787; † October 26, 1854). His father was a privy councilor and lord of Peukendorf and Schernberg .

Life

He received his education at the grammar school in Erfurt. After graduating, he joined the 4th Artillery Brigade as a gunner on October 1, 1842. From there he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1, 1843 to July 30, 1847 . During this time he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on June 1, 1844, transferred to the Guard Artillery Brigade on October 28, 1848, and on September 2, 1845 with a patent on August 18, 1844, aggregated as a second lieutenant . On October 12, 1846, he was appointed artillery officer. In 1848 he fought in the street fighting in Berlin during the March Revolution . The following year he was assigned to the Guards Artillery Brigade on February 6, 1849.

On December 14, 1854 he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant and on May 31, 1859 to captain. During the mobilization of 1859 he was appointed commander of the ammunition column of the 4th Guards Artillery Brigade. For his work there he received a commendation on October 3, 1859, and on May 10, 1861, he was transferred to the Guards Artillery Brigade as battery chief. During the German War of 1866 he fought in the Battle of Königgrätz and received a commendation for it.

After the war, he rose to major on June 17, 1868, and was appointed commander of the 2nd Division of the Guards Artillery Regiment on September 12, 1868. During the Franco-Prussian War he fought in the battles at Gravelotte , Beaumont and Sedan . He was also present at the siege of Paris and the bombardment of Montmedy and Le Bourget . For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on September 4, 1870 and the Iron Cross 1st Class on September 20, 1871 .

After the war he was given the command of field artillery regiment No. 14, and on September 2, 1873 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. On May 7, 1874, he was then charged with the command of Field Artillery Regiment No. 10. On June 9, 1874 he was confirmed as commandant and promoted to colonel on March 22, 1876. For this he received the Crown Order 2nd Class on September 22nd, 1877 . On September 12, 1878, he joined the 7th Field Artillery Brigade as commander. On September 13, 1882 he was promoted to major general and on September 20, 1884 the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves . On September 18, 1886 he was put up for disposal with the character of lieutenant general and pension . On December 13, 1887, he received a retirement pension and died on August 4, 1898 in Gotha.

Krieger married Marie Sommer on October 13, 1851 in Magdeburg (* June 27, 1830; † September 9, 1917). The couple had several children:
