Maximilian zu Salm-Salm

Maximilian Friedrich Ernst von Salm-Salm (born November 28, 1732 at Anholt Palace ; † September 14, 1773 in Antwerp ) was Prince of Salm-Salm , Duke of Hoogstraten , bearer of the Golden Fleece , knight of the Order of Hubertus and Maria-Theresia -Order . He was imperial and royal chamberlain , governor of the fortress of Luxembourg , imperial field marshal lieutenant and field marshal lieutenant of the Upper Rhine Empire .

His parents were Prince Nikolaus Leopold zu Salm-Salm (1701–1770) and his wife Dorothea Franziska Agnes von Salm (1702–1751).

Life

In his youth he was a member of the Order of Malta , but then switched to a position as Domicellar in the Archbishopric of Cologne . He left the intellectual class and became captain of the imperial infantry regiment No. 14 "Graf Salm" , in which his father was regiment chief . In 1755 he became lieutenant colonel, in 1758 colonel and on February 26, 1763 general sergeant major. On February 2, 1749, he received the Order of Hubertus from the Electorate of the Palatinate and the Order of Maria Theresa on December 4, 1758. On November 30, 1772, he was also awarded the Golden Fleece. During the Seven Years' War he fought in the Battle of Kolin , where he was wounded. In 1759 he was taken prisoner of war in Prussia during a battle near Asch.

After the death of his father, there were inheritance disputes that preoccupied the imperial courts. On July 5, 1771, there was a settlement in Paris. He received the Duchy of Hoogstraten, while his older brother Ludwig zu Salm-Salm received sole government power over the Principality of Salm-Salm . When the older brother died without an heir, Maximilian's son Konstantin zu Salm-Salm became sole prince of Salm and Salm-Salm.

He was married to Maria Louise Eleonore von Hessen-Rheinfels (born April 18, 1729, † January 6, 1800) since 1756. The couple had the following children:
