Maximus (bishop)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maximus was the first bishop of Constance at the end of the 6th century .

In Vindonissa the bishops Bubulcus (first bishop of Vindonissa 517-534), Cromatius (also Cormmatius or Grammatius , bishop from 534 to 552) and Ursinus are attested. According to a building inscription in Vindonissa (today Windisch ), the diocese of Vindonissa was moved to Constance on Lake Constance in 590 .

Maximus became (probably) the first bishop of Constance with the establishment of the Diocese of Constance around 585/590 by the Alemannic dukes with the help of Pope Gregory I, called the Great .
