Bubulcus (bishop)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bubulcus of Vindonissa or Boulcus or Bovicus was the first bishop of Vindonissa (Diocese of Windisch-Konstanz) from 517 to 534 .

Life

In Vindonissa, in addition to Bubulcus (first bishop of Windisch 517-534), Grammatius (also Cormmatius , bishop from 534 to 552) and Ursinus are attested. According to a building inscription in Vindonissa (today Windisch ), the diocese was moved from Windisch to Constance on Lake Constance in 590.

Bubulcus was a participant in the Burgundian Synod of Epao-Jenne in 517.

Since there is no clear evidence of when the Diocese of Windisch-Konstanz was founded, Maximus - according to other sources also Gaudentius - is the first Bishop of Constance with the establishment of the Diocese of Constance around 585/590 by the Alemannic dukes with the help of Pope Gregory I, called the great .
