Johann Ernst Christian Schmidt

Johann Ernst Christian Schmidt (born January 6, 1772 in Busenborn , † June 4, 1831 in Gießen ) was a Protestant theologian and member of parliament.

Schmidt was the son of the pastor and teacher in Busenborn David Jakob Schmidt (1736-1803) and his wife Louise Catharina nee Klein. Schmidt, who was a Protestant denomination, married Sophie, born Minnigerode, in 1800, the daughter of the Syndicus in Alsfeld, Johann Henrich Benjamin Minnigerode.

He initially received lessons at home and studied theology at the University of Giessen from 1788 to 1791 , where he became a private lecturer in 1793 . From 1794 to 1798 he was a teacher at the pedagogy in Giessen and from 1798 to 1831 he was a full professor of theology at the University of Giessen. From 1803 he was university librarian. From 1812/13 to 1827 he was director of the Philological Seminary. In 1824 he became the owner of the second philosophical teaching position.

From 1803 to 1830 he was a church and school council and from 1803 a member of the legislative commission as well as Hesse-Darmstadt historiographer. In 1806 he was supported by the University of Halle for Dr. theol. PhD. In 1816 he was awarded a Dr. phil. hc doctorate.

From 1806 to 1808 he was Superintendent i. V. before he was promoted to the Spiritual Privy Council in 1808 . In 1820 he became a prelate . As a prelate from 1820 to 1830 he was constitutionally a member of the first chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament .
