Maxine Daniels

Maxine Daniels (born November 2, 1930 in Stepney as Gladys Lynch , † October 20, 2003 in Romford , London Borough of Havering ) was a British jazz singer .

Daniels, who was one of 13 children of a Caribbean sailor and an English mother, first performed in London nightclubs; In 1950 she married Charlie Daniels, with whom she had a daughter. In 1953 she won a TV singing competition. In the 1950s she released a number of singles on the British label Oriole Records, including a. the jazz standard Come Rain or Come Shine , the Glenn Miller song Moonlight Serenade and When It's Spring Time in the Rockies (with Danny Boyce & His Orchestra). After an eight-year hiatus, she worked with Humphrey Lyttelton in the 1960s , with Harry Gold and the Dutch Swing College Band , and in later years with Benny Green and Terry Lightfoot . In the 1980s she recorded several albums under her own name, such as A Beautiful Friendship . Heart surgery interrupted her career in 1988 before making other recordings for Humphrey Lyttelton's Calligraph label in the 1990s, including The Memory Of Tonight , a collection of standards. According to Digby Fairweather , her singing is reminiscent of Rosemary Clooney .
