Maxwell Armfield
Maxwell Ashby Armfield (born October 5, 1881 in Ringwood , † January 23, 1972 ) was a British painter. He is included in the Arts and Crafts Movement and was also influenced by academic art . He himself maintained a traditional style and mainly worked with tempera paints .
Life
Born into a Quaker family in Ringwood, Hampshire, Armfield was educated at Sidcot School and Leighton Park School. He himself said he couldn't have been a worse student.
In 1902 Armfield left Great Britain and traveled to mainland Europe to Paris to study art under Gustave Courtois at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière . In 1904 his painting Faustine was bought in the Salon de Paris . It is now in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
In 1969, three years before his death, his painting Domesticated Mural Painting was used as the cover for Fleetwood Mac's album Then Play On .
