Maya Iceland Air is a regional airline from Belize , located in Belize City . It was created in December 1997 from the merger of the two companies Maya Airways and Island Air .
history
Maya Airways was founded by private investors in Belize City in 1961 after British Honduras Airways , a subsidiary of the state-owned British West Indies Airways , ceased operations. Operations started in the following year. In the 1970s, the company used, among others, Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander and Cessna 206 in national scheduled services and on charter flights .
Maya Airways and the San Pedro- based air taxi company Island Air merged in December 1997 to form the new company Maya Island Air . As of April 2018, the company is flying to twelve domestic destinations as planned and also operates international charter flights to Guatemala and Honduras .

As of April 2018, the company's fleet consists of three Britten-Norman BN-2 Islanders , one Cessna 182 , eight Cessna 208 and one Gippsland GA-8 .
