The lip mouth ( Mazus reptans ) is a species of plant in the Phrymaceae family . The plant comes from the Himalayas and is a valued ornamental plant as a ground cover .
description
The lip mouth is a cushion-forming, perennial herbaceous plant . The prostrate and root-forming, thin stem axis reaches a length of up to 5 centimeters. The up to 10 millimeters long leaves are lanceolate to elliptical, their edge finely serrated.
The flowering period extends from May to July, rarely also in autumn. The inflorescences are grapes , the flowers two to five-fold. The corolla is two-lipped and bluish-purple, the lower lip has white, purple and yellow spots.

The lip mouth originally comes from the Himalayan region . The species is extremely frost hardy and tolerates temperatures of less than −30 ° C.
use
The species is used as a ground cover in beds, but can also be used as a lawn substitute perennial under good conditions due to its vigor. It is partially stable. In addition to the species, there is a pure white flowering variety 'Albus' with light green foliage.
