The McCarthy Road is a 97 km long gravel road in Valdez-Cordova Census Area in Alaska . It runs from the end of the Edgerton Highway at Chitina on the Copper River in an easterly direction to just before McCarthy in the valley of the Kennicott Glacier .

The road follows the rivers Chitina River and Nizina River and the track bed of the decommissioned Copper River and Northwestern Railway . It is next to the Nabesna Road one of two roads in the Wrangell-St Elias National Park lead, but is not part of the park. McCarthy Road provides access to the abandoned copper mines at Kennicott .

At mile 17.4 (28 km) the Kuskulana River Bridge spans the canyon of the Kuskulana River . The steel girder bridge was built in 1910 as a railway bridge and is now used for road vehicles.
