The McDonald Bank ( English ) is a submarine bank in the middle of the West Antarctic Weddell Sea . Berkner Island and the Henry Ice Rise are based on it .
It is named at the suggestion of the surveyor and glaciologist Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute based on the naming of the McDonald Ice Rumples in the Brunt Ice Shelf . Which is named after Allan McDonald of the British Association of Magallanes in Chile's Punta Arenas , the July 1916 money for the equipment of the ship Emma for this unsuccessful rescue on Elephant Iceland stranded participants of the Endurance Expedition (1914-1917) under the direction of British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton had made available. The designation was confirmed in June 1997 by the US Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF).
