The McGinnis peak is 1,270 m high and prominent mountain on the Dufek Coast in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It rises 6 km southwest of the Oppegaard Spur and immediately east of the lower section of the Kosco Glacier near the southern edge of the Ross Ice Shelf . A special feature of this mountain is a large and non-iced mountain basin on its northern slope.
Scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) discovered it. The US polar explorer Albert P. Crary explored it between 1957 and 1958. He named it after the seismologist Lyle McGinnis (* 1931), who was a member of a US team from 1958 to 1959 that had crossed the Victoria Lands for exploration purposes.
