The McSweeney Point is a defined and rocky headland at the Shackleton Coast in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . On the southwestern edge of the Ross Ice Shelf , it is 5 km east of the mouth of the Davidson Glacier .
The United States Geological Survey mapped them based on their own tellurometer measurements between 1961 and 1962 and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1960. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1966 Lieutenant Robert H. McSweeney, commander of the naval tanker USS Tombigbee during Operation Deep Freeze of 1963.
