The Mecklenburg Insurance Company Mutual is a German insurance company based in the Lower Saxon state capital Hanover . It is the oldest German private insurance company with national business operations. The Mecklenburg Insurance Group offers a wide range of property and personal insurance for private individuals as well as commercial and agricultural businesses. The chairman of the supervisory board is Georg Zaum.

The Mecklenburgische is represented nationwide in Germany: 24 district offices and two sales offices nationwide support the approximately 800 full-time agencies on site. The company is concentrating on the exclusive organization as the only sales channel.
Corporate goals
The most important corporate goals are to provide the club members with comprehensive insurance coverage, to maintain their independence as an independent insurance group, to maintain the legal form of the mutual insurance company and to adhere to exclusive sales as an indispensable link between the Mecklenburgische and its customers.
Company history
Until 1945
On March 2, 1797, the Mecklenburgische in Neubrandenburg was founded under the name Hagelschadens-Assekuranz-Gesellschaft in the Mecklenburg Lands. From 1799, non-Mecklenburgers could also be included in the insurance. This opened the way for the company to supra-regional activity.
In 1801 the Mobiliar-Brand-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft started business operations. By introducing directorate districts, the company created a comprehensive representation.
In 1862 the general assembly decided to found a real estate brand insurance company. Burglary, robbery and tap water damage insurance and combined household contents insurance were also included. The last general meeting for the time being took place in Neubrandenburg in June 1942. The "Ordinance on Restricting General Meetings" prohibited them from meeting in the following year for the duration of the war.
From 1945
The office building in Neubrandenburg burned down in 1945 after being burned by Soviet soldiers. From June 1945 the insurance business was organized from Hanover. In 1946 the remaining stocks of the Agricultural Insurance Company zu Greifswald and the Schwedt Hagel- und Feuer-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft were taken over.
In 1971 the Mecklenburgische Lebensversicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft was founded, one year later the Mecklenburgische Rechtsschutz Versicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft, which was merged with the Mecklenburgische Versicherungs-Gesellschaft on January 1, 1999. In 1989 the Mecklenburgische Vermittlungs-GmbH was founded to broker insurance lines that are not sold by the ME Group, and in 2000 the Mecklenburgische Krankenversicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft.

Art award
Since 2006, the Mecklenburg Insurance Group has been donating an art prize for fine arts in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The prize is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros each and is awarded every two years. The patron of this art award is the internationally recognized artist Günther Uecker .
