Medal for the guards

The fire service medal - or medal for the guards - was an award for the fire brigade of the Papal States . The founder was Pope Gregory XVI. in 1836.

history

The award was donated on June 12, 1836 as a public sign of recognition for the good maneuvering process of the papal fire brigade corps . Here the Pope was personally present as an observer. Pope Pius IX donated a similar bronze medal on April 25, 1847 .

Order decoration

The order decoration showed the portrait of Pope Gregory XVI on the obverse . and the inscription Gregorius XVI. Pont. Max. A. VI. ; the back bore the date 12th July 1836 in the middle , which was surrounded by an oak and olive wreath .

The ribbon is said to have been bordered in yellow and white. The medal (also) exists without a ribbon.
