The Medice Arzneimittel Putter GmbH & Co. KG (proper spelling MEDICE ) is a medium-sized German manufacturer of pharmaceuticals and medical devices based in Iserlohn .
The company develops, produces and markets around 100 pharmaceuticals and medical products internationally, employs over 500 people in Germany and internationally in its own subsidiaries in the EU . Medice describes itself as a family company , it is run in the third generation of the family by Katja Pütter-Ammer and Richard Ammer.
history
Medice was founded in 1949 by Gustav Pütter (born July 3, 1907 in Grürmannsheide , today Iserlohn district; † June 30, 1977 in Iserlohn), Pütter supported the regional supply of medicines on behalf of the British after the Second World War. In the early years dealt Medice to begin producing and marketing of preparations against skin diseases and digestive disorders as well as for the liver - bile - metabolism . There was also a homeopathic cold preparation and vitamin preparations. In 1952 he developed a method of compression therapy named after him , the Pütter Association , which has proven its worth for the treatment of leg ulcers in diabetic feet and is sold internationally by Hartmann .
In 1977 Sigurd Pütter (* 1942), the son of the company founder, took over the management. In 1989, Medice began developing and manufacturing medicines for the treatment of kidney diseases (nephrology). a. 2007 became the first manufacturer to introduce an epoetin biosimilar. Since 2000, Medice has also been selling specially developed and manufactured drugs for the field of child and adolescent psychiatry , especially for the multimodal treatment of attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), making it a leader in Germany and the EU.
The company has been managed in the third generation by Katja Pütter-Ammer (* 1967 in Iserlohn) and Richard Ammer (* 1970 in Munich) since 2001.
On April 1, 2006, Medice took over Dr. Rentschler Arzneimittel , the over-the-counter ( OTC ) drugs division of the Dr. Rentschler in Laupheim . With this, the company expanded its OTC portfolio to include other brands, in 2013 Perenterol, so that this division now contributes around 50% to sales and Medice is one of the top 15 OTC providers in Germany.
The company is also active in foreign markets with its own subsidiaries. In Austria with MEDICE Arzneimittel GmbH (Hallein), in Switzerland with Salmon Pharma (Basel), in Greece with Medice Hellas AE , and since 2017 in the Netherlands with Medice BV in Rijen near Breda . The wholly owned domestic subsidiaries of Medice Arzneimittel Pütter GmbH & Co. KG are also Medice Pharma GmbH & Co. KG (Iserlohn) as a continuation of the acquired Rentschler Arzneimittel GmbH, Humantis GmbH (Cologne) specializing in orthopedic indications and Dentosafe dental research and research Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH (Iserlohn).
