Media women meeting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The media women meeting , also known as the autumn meeting of media women , is an annual meeting of women from the broadcasters of ARD , ZDF and ORF . The content of the meeting is organized every year by the lead broadcaster. During the meeting, the Saure Gurke has also been awarded since 1980 , a negative prize intended to draw attention to particularly misogynistic television programs from public broadcasters .

Goals of the media women meeting

The overriding aim of the media women’s meeting is to address the issue of equality for women in public media outlets. Each meeting has its own focus. Lectures and discussion groups are organized for this purpose and general networking is promoted, and in some cases job-related advanced training events are offered.

A gender equitable filling of management positions in the broadcasting corporations is required throughout. Radio content classified as sexist should be combated.

history

The first meeting took place in 1978. The ZDF women's group, which was founded out of outrage over the presumed ignorance of the TV Council chairman and the balance of power, had invited. This year 130 women from the ARD broadcasters and ZDF met in Frankfurt am Main. A year later, 250 women were present in Berlin. From 1980 women from ORF also came to the autumn meeting. Demands for quotas and women's representatives determined the content of the meetings at that time. From 1985 positions for women's representatives were set up first in the Hessischer Rundfunk , then in the following years in all other broadcasters.

The participants of the 26th autumn meeting wrote a resolution in 2003 in which they called for decisions to discontinue women’s programs to be reversed and for more airtime to be given to the issue of gender equality.

The archive pages of the media women's meeting 2001–2009 have meanwhile been switched off because the organizer in 2010 did not want to bear the costs of hosting .

Negative price "sour cucumber"

The “sour cucumber” was first awarded in 1979. Every year the media women “honor” a program that conveys traditional women's clichés or is otherwise misogynistic.
