The Medima Werke Karl Scheurer KG , from 1990 Medima GmbH , is a former company based in Hauingen (today in Lörrach ) and from 1962 in neighboring Maulburg , which manufactured linen from Angora wool.
history
In 1932 the Upper Baden Angorawerke GmbH was founded. The angora laundry was sold through specialist health shops. In 1953 the name Medima (abbreviation for medicine in mesh ) was created and registered as a trademark three years later. Further production sites in Kandern and Tegernau were opened. Since 1970 Medima products have been available not only in Germany but also in the rest of Europe. Further expansions followed in the 1980s. At around 800, the number of employees reached its peak in the early 1980s; sales in 1981 were 103.2 million DM (in today's purchasing power 107 million €).
In the early 1990s, the company ran into economic difficulties. In 1994 the company was taken over by the Quandt Group . The number of employees fell to 400 by 1997, sales in 1999 were only 70 million DM ( adjusted for inflation, a decrease of 55% compared to 1981). In January 2001 the company filed for bankruptcy.
communication
With the Hasenkopf logo and Lampi , the Medima rabbit as a cartoon character, Medima advertised on television and radio in the 1960s . The textile manufacturer allegedly achieved a level of awareness of 83%.
From 1971 until probably the end of the 1980s, the company published the company magazine Echo .
Brand name
After the bankruptcy, the brand name Medima and the logo were taken over by Peters GmbH in Albstadt - Tailfingen , which also bought part of the machinery. In 2004 Medima Vertriebs GmbH (formerly Peters Angora ) was established.
