Medos

Medos ( Greek  Μῆδος ) or Medeios (Greek Μήδειος ) is a figure of Greek mythology , son of Medeia with either Aigeus or Jason . He was raised and trained by Cheiron .

When he and his mother were banished from Athens , he first followed her, but then ended up on the shores of Perses due to the storm and was brought before him. For his own protection, he pretended to be Hippotes , Creon's son, because under his true identity, due to the oracle that Perses would have to fear death from the descendants of Aietes , he would have been threatened with grave misery. The then arriving Medeia, pretending to be Artemis priestess, heard about it and thought that the person in custody had come to take revenge on her for the bloody deed against Creon. So she unwittingly betrayed her son by announcing that it was not Hippotes but Medos, sent by his mother to murder him, Perses. He should be handed over to her so that she could get him out of the way. When this was brought forward, she realized her mistake and asked for a private interview with him. There she gave him a sword and instructed him to kill Perses in revenge for the injustice he had committed against his grandfather.

Medos followed his mother's will, killed Perses and took possession of his empire, which he named after himself Media . He subsequently subjugated other peoples, whose countries he incorporated into his empire, and finally died during a campaign against the Indians .

Others believe that Medeia fled from Athens into the depths of Asia with a retinue given to her by Aigeus, married an eminent king there and gave birth to Medos. Medos inherited his father's rule, and his subjects would have named themselves Medes after him because of his admirable bravery.
