Meflah Benaouda (called Aoued ; * May 7, 1906 in Mascara , † March 5, 1965 in Takhemaret ) was an Algerian - French football player.

Career

Youth in Algeria (before 1929)

Benaouda grew up as a member of the local population in French-occupied Algeria and began playing football at the Ghali Club in his home town of Mascara . The striker was part of his team in young adulthood before he moved to the capital club MC Alger in 1927 . With this he rose in the following year to the third highest division. During his stay in the Algerian capital, he also had to do his military service. He made the decisive leap in his career a little later when he noticed the people in charge of the northern French club SC Fives .

Pre-war years in France (1929–1939)

In 1929 he managed to move to main France, where he wore the jersey of the miners team from Fives, which belongs to Lille. He was part of the offensive of a team that played in the highest amateur league until they qualified in 1932 for the new national professional league Division 1 . The then 26-year-old was one of the pioneers of the new top division and remained loyal to the northern French until he found a new employer in 1934 in the newly promoted Olympique Alès from the south of the country. With this he had to accept relegation in 1936, but was able to remain in the first class through his move to Stade Rennes UC . Although he scored eight goals in the following season 1936/37 without having been undisputedly set, the player with the nickname Aoued had to experience relegation in 1937 and this time made his way to the second division. After the recovery failed a year later, he joined the first division club FC Antibes .

War years and return to Algeria (1939–1965)

The beginning of the Second World War led to the cessation of official game operations in 1939, but unlike many teammates, Benaouda was able to continue his career as part of the unofficially continued event. In 1940 he turned his back on Antibes and went back to Rennes. With Rennes in 1941 he made it to the still unofficial first division and remained loyal to the club until 1945. The then 39-year-old returned to his Algerian homeland and took on the role of player- coach at Ghali Club Mascara , where he had already played at the beginning of his career . At the same time, his main job was as a sports teacher. Benaouada was 58 years old when he had a car accident in spring 1965 after visiting relatives and died as a result. A stadium in his hometown of Muaskar was named Stade Meflah Aoued in his honor .
