Lousal 1 megalithic complex

The megalithic complexes of Lousal (Lousal 1 and Lousal 2) lie west of the hamlet of Lousal near Grândola in the Setúbal district in Estremadura in Portugal .

Lousal 1

The megalithic monument Lousal 1 is a domed or tholos grave , as a rare double chamber to be found, whereby the secondary chamber has an oval shape. It was discovered by A. Rodrigues Cavaco and excavated by Otávio da Veiga Ferreira in the 1950s. It was classified as IIP - Imóvel de Interest Público in 1990.

Lousal 1 has a round chamber, the oval side chamber of which is connected by a straight passage. The round chamber is about 2.0 m in diameter and consists of eight rectangular porphyry supporting stones with a maximum height of 1.8 m. The access is adapted to the chamber diameter and about 2.0 m long. Next to the round chamber is an oval structure, consisting of nine supporting stones about 80 cm high, separated from the other by a small, narrow passage formed by three stones. Traces of the original tumulus can still be seen. The Tholos was founded around 2000 BC. Built until about 1700 BC. Used. The megalithic complex is located in an area that is rich in pyrite and ore ; Lousal is still a mining community today.

Within the Dolmens were a bracer from shale , a arrowhead from Palmela type from copper , a copper Reif, a spherical vessel, a cup, a slate fragment, a grinding stone and ocher fragments found. The artifacts can be viewed at the Museu do Instituto Geológico e Mineiro (Museum of the Geological Institute of Mining) in Lisbon .

Lousal 2

Lousal 2 is a stone box . It belongs to a group of monuments that are more common in the area and is not protected.

The rectangular stone box consists of six stones. An end stone is easily recognizable. The west side is missing. The dimensions are approximately 2.3 × 1.15 m.

The megalithic complex Pata do Cavalo and the Anta do Monte Serôdio are nearby .
