Knockbrack Megalithic Tomb

Megaliths in Connemara are those megalithic systems that are located in the west of County Galway . 31 of the 38 plants are concentrated in the valleys of the Connemara region , 18 of which were discovered by M. Gibbons. The seven other plants are located on the Aran Islands ( Carrownlisheen , Oghil ) belonging to the county . Connemara is Ireland's most northwestern megalithic site after County Mayo . The systems on the mainland are twelve Court Tombs (e.g. Cleggan , Letterfrack and Knockbrack ), four Portal Tombs ( Cloonlooaun ), six Wedge Tombs ( Ardnagreevagh , Marblehill South ) and nine difficult to classify or severely disturbed systems. For some, the classification is fuzzy, others do not fit into the current scheme at all.

As a hill grave (1), Cairn (6) or stone box (3) ( Fakeeragh be classified further ten plants). Two of the six Cairns are in the Aran Islands.

Among the 33  menhir locations are 19  monoliths , nine pairs of stones (which can also represent the remains of larger structures) and five rows of stones , among which the stone row Finn Mc Cool's Fingers in the townland of Derryinver stands out. On the Aran Islands there is only the 3.6 meter high menhir of Kilmurvy (also Kilmurvey Irish Cill Mhuirbhigh ) on the island of Inishmore .
