founding

The company's origins go back to a dairy founded by Josef Anton Meggle in Wasserburg am Inn in 1882 . After small beginnings, a cheese sales point was set up in Dresden in 1886 . Soon afterwards, however, the company became insolvent due to speculation by Josef Meggle's brother.

On March 18, 1887, Josef Anton started again and set up a cheese dairy on the Guck-Hof in Attel . This is considered the date the company was founded.

The sales offices extend beyond the core market of Europe to North and South America and Asia. Outside Germany, local milk, cheese, cream and yoghurt products are produced for the regional market at six production sites in Central and Eastern Europe.

Product history

The breakthrough for Meggle and at the same time the hour of birth of the portion butter was the Eucharistic World Congress in Munich in the summer of 1960. The supply of butter was put out to tender for the catering of the 500,000 international participants during the one-week event. Meggle developed the portion butter. Meggle founded a new product category. In the following years production was expanded.

For the herb butter developed, Meggle was able to enforce the food law entry of the butter preparations category in the German spreadable fat regulation . Up to now there was no legal category into which the herb butter could have been classified. Today the range includes butter preparations as well as butter specialties such as herb, garlic, spring herb, roasted onion, truffle butter and various varieties that are offered seasonally.

In 1995 Meggle expanded its range to include the baguettes product category. The range now includes various chilled baguettes.

In the Meggle Pharma division, Meggle develops and sells lactose-containing raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry.

slogan

In the 1990s, the advertising slogan “I am a gourmet meggle” - a combination of gourmet and Meggle - emerged.
