The Megilot Regional Administration ( Hebrew מועצה אזורית מגילות Mo'atza Azorit Megilot ) is a regional administration in the southeastern West Bank in Israeli Judea and Samaria .

The name Megilot means scroll and refers to the Dead Sea scrolls found in Qumran in the area of ​​today's regional administration.

The seat of the administration is in Vered Jericho.

The area of ​​regional administration is located in the eastern part of the Judean Desert , west and north of the Dead Sea .

history

The Palestine Potash Company, founded by Mose Nowomeisky in 1930, began extracting potash from the northern Dead Sea in the area of ​​today's regional administration . For this purpose, the village of Kalija was built in 1929, which was destroyed in the Palestine War in 1948 and rebuilt in 1968.

During the Six Day War of 1967, Israel occupied what is now the regional administration. 1981 for the emerging since 1968 Israeli settlements a separate administrative unit established.
