Regional Association (Israel)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Regional associations ( plural : Hebrew מוֹעָצוֹת אֵזוֹרִיּוֹת / מועצות אזוריות Mo'azot Asoriot or singular: Hebrew מוֹעָצָה אֵזוֹרִית / מועצה אזורית Mo'aza Asorit ) are, in addition to the municipalities and local governments , one of the three types of local government in Israel .

General

Office of the Menasche regional association in the Haifa district

An Israeli regional association is responsible for the administration of a number of localities in rural areas.
A regional association represents between 3 and 54 localities, which are usually spread over a relatively large area but are geographically close to one another.

As a rule, a place in the regional association has no more than 2000 inhabitants and is administered by a local committee. This committee sends delegates to the regional association in proportion to the number of inhabitants of the place and according to an index that is determined before each election. Locations without an administrative committee do not send delegates, but rather make agreements directly with the regional association. Deputies from the settlements represented are either appointed directly or elected by election. Numerous places in the regional association are kibbutzim and moshavim .

In 2018 there were 54 regional associations in Israel.
