The regional administration of Eshkol ( Hebrew מועצה אזורית אשכול, Mo'atza Azorit Eschkol ) is a regional government in the northwestern Negev in Israel's southern district . It is named after the third Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eschkol . He founded Mekorot , an organization that secured the water supply for the Jewish settlements, especially in the arid northern Negev . Levi Eschkol was director of Mekorot from 1937 to 1951.

The area of the regional administration lies in the northern Negev between Ashkelon and Be'er Sheva , bounded to the west by the Gaza Strip and to the east by the area of the regional administration of B'nei Shimon .

Shortly before the start of the final ceasefire in Operation Protective Edge , Zeev Etzion, 55, and Shachar Melamed, 43, from Kibbutz Nirim were killed in an attack with mortar shells from the Gaza Strip at 6:00 p.m. local time on August 26, 2014. Four other people were injured.
