Schlomit is a settlement of the Amana settlement movement founded in 2011 in the northwest of the Negev desert in Israel . The place had 305 inhabitants in 2018.

geography

Schlomit is located about 700 meters from the Egyptian border in the southwest of the Eshkol regional administration and about 10 kilometers south of the Israeli-Egyptian border crossing at Kerem Shalom . The area on the edge of the Negev is called Cholot Chaluza (Halutza Sands) in Israel . In September 2011, the settlement consisted only of a few residential containers, which were inhabited by 6 ultra-Orthodox families and Israeli soldiers. Schlomit, along with the Moshaw Naveh and Benei Nezarim to the south, is one of the three settlements of the Jewish National Fund in which settlers who were resettled from the Gaza Strip in 2005 have found a new home.

Planning

In the future, Schlomit will be inhabited by 500 families. The plans of the Israeli Ministry for the Development of the Negev and Galilee and the regional association even include 1,500 families. In addition to apartments and schools, an industrial area and arable land are planned. The Ministry of Defense is tasked with securing the settlement, but some of the costs have to be borne by the settlers themselves.
