District level partnership

The regional association Scha'ar HaNegev has cultivated a friendship with the district of Karlsruhe since 1992 , which was initiated by the then district administrator Bernhard Ditteney . The partnership was established on November 13, 2009 by District Administrator Dr. Christoph Schnaudigel and his Israeli counterpart Mayor Alon Schuster officially sealed. In addition to mutual visits, a number of activities and institutions have emerged:

An integral part of the friendship is a youth exchange that has existed since 1995 and that has been anchored in the three schools of the Ettlingen Vocational Training Center since 2009. Schoolchildren in the 11th entry grade of the vocational high schools are housed for one week in the families of the exchange partners and thus get to know the special relationship between Germany and Israel first-hand. The aim of this exchange project is to contribute to a better understanding of people and cultures, to get to know the special relationship between Germany and Israel firsthand and to understand historical and current events and to be able to discuss them with one another. In this respect, this exchange is of particular importance compared to other school and youth encounters.

The Karlsruhe district supports the German-Israeli youth exchange financially and organizationally. He provides funds from the district budget and applies for federal funds to cover the total costs and to finance the exchange program in Germany and Israel.

During stays in Israel, which are usually for one week, a. A visit to the Holocaust Museum, the Old City of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, a trip to the Negev Desert and the Dead Sea are an integral part of the program.
