Mehmet Akarca

Mehmet Akarca (born January 21, 1963 in Şirvan , Siirt Province ) is a Turkish lawyer who has been Attorney General at the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Turkey since May 18, 2015 .

Life

After attending Karşıyaka Havva Özişbakan secondary school, Akarca began studying law at the Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi , which he graduated in 1986. After a shortened military service in Kütahya , he became an assistant judge in Izmir before he was successively judge in Ulubey , Gevaş and Sultanhisar . After serving as President of the Serious Crimes Court (Ağır Ceza Mahkemesi) in Sivas , he became President of the Serious Crime Court for Kütahya and Karşıyaka and chairman of the judicial commission there.

On January 18, 2010 Akarca was elected a member of the Court of Cassation of Turkey (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Yargıtay Başkanlığı) and took over the function of President of the 14th Chamber on October 21, 2013 after his election by the Grand Plenary Assembly of the court as the successor to Fevzi Elmas of the Court of Cassation.

Akarca was appointed Public Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 18, 2015 , and thus became the highest public prosecutor as successor to Hasan Erbil .

He is married and has two children.
