Mehmet Ufuk Uras

Mehmet Ufuk Uras (* 1959 in Istanbul - Üsküdar ) is a Turkish politician, economist and member of parliament. From 2007 to 2009 he was chairman of the Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) and from 2007 to 2011 a member of the National Assembly , from 2009 for the Barış ve Demokrasi Partisi (BDP).

biography

Uras attended the Anadolu Lisesi in Kadıköy and studied at the Faculty of Economics of Istanbul University , where he also received his doctorate. Until he was elected as a MP from Istanbul in July 2007, Uras worked at the Faculty of Economics as a lecturer in political science and international relations. In addition to his teaching activities, he was editor of İktisat Dergisi (magazine for business) and chairman of the alumni association of the business faculty (IFMC) and the union of teachers (ÖES).

In the parliamentary elections in 2007 he succeeded in being elected to parliament as an independent direct candidate with 81,486 votes . His election campaign was supported by many artists, socialist intellectuals, other left-wing organizations and supporters of the Toplum Partisi democracy . Soon after the election he rejoined the ÖDP and was elected chairman. In June 2009 he resigned from the ÖDP. After a ban against the Democracy Toplum Partisi on December 11, 2009, 19 MPs joined the BDP. Uras became the 20th member of the BDP in parliament, thus enabling the BDP to form a parliamentary group. In the next election in 2011 , Uras did not run. In November 2012 he became the founder of the social liberal green party Yeşiller ve Sol Gelecek Partisi .
