Prussian whole milestone in Magdeburg-Ottersleben (status 1994-2017)

The milestone in Ottersleben is a listed milestone in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt . It is located on a strip of green on the north side of Wanzleber Chaussee in Magdeburg's Ottersleben district .

The Prussian all-round milestone was erected on the instructions of the General Post Office around 1803/1804 on what was then the post road Magdeburg - Wanzleben - Halberstadt on the outskirts of Ottersleben. Your zero point was the Magdeburg rider on the old market in Magdeburg . A Prussian mile is 7.532 kilometers long and so this distance stone marks this first mile. Up to the junction from this, the Chaussee shares the route with Leipziger Straße, the old Chaussee from Magdeburg via Halle (Saale) to Leipzig , which was built from 1788 and where milestones have also been preserved (e.g. the all-mile obelisk in the Beyendorfer Grund district ) such as the road built up to 1828 via Egeln to Halberstadt (e.g. the half mile stone in Langenweddingen ), which branches off in Ottersleben.

In the local register of monuments , the distance stone is listed as a monument under the number 094 06244. It is one of three remaining milestones along this route. The post milestone was long thought to be a half-milestone because it had an unusual appearance. Up to 1995 only two of the three remaining parts were recognizable, as the rest had probably been spilled during construction work. With the elevation it became clear that the supposed base was in truth only the middle part and the base was underneath.

In 2017 the stone was restored to its original dimensions at the instigation of the Ottersleber associations Bürger für Ottersleben and Heimatverein Ottersleben . It was dismantled on May 30, 2017, and a stonemason company removed the tip that did not belong to the original stone and placed the missing obelisk. On August 28, 2017, the stone was set up again. Next to the stone was an explanation board from the Milestones research group with the most important data on stone, road and their equipment.
