Milestone (Neubrandenburg Abbey)
The milestone in the monastery area in Neubrandenburg is a small monument in the town of Neubrandenburg in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
In the Franciscan monastery in Neubrandenburg , a lapidarium was set up north of the St. Johannis around 1980 for stones of all kinds that were dismantled at their original location. Under these stones there is also a round base stone with two legible inscriptions: 0.5 mile to Stargard and 3 miles to Neu-Strelitz . Since both places are located south of Neubrandenburg, one can assume that it once stood south of the city. An accompanying plate explains: “Milestone with inscription; Probable historical location: south of Tannenkrug on the F96; Material granite porphyry; Location: street east from Wulkenzin, Krs Nbdbg. "
The almost 1.5 meter high Mecklenburg-Strelitz milestone is a listed building and has been included in the list of architectural monuments in Neubrandenburg . In 2015 it was made likely that the round column was already at the fourth location. At first it was located northwest of Stargard Castle on today's state road 33, then on federal highway 96 , also northwest of Stargard Castle , but closer to Lake Tollensesee , where the base is still preserved, and only then did it come to Wulkenzin, from where it is now The location came after its use there as a traffic island marker was short-lived. In that short time it was painted white.
