Karl struggles with the typical problems of growing up; So he tries to get to his first great love Clara, has to make decisions about friendships and of course school is also a problem. Karl's parents and his two older siblings Raiko and Janina, who are training to be a hairdresser, are of little help during this time . Karl tries everything possible to finally end up with his crush Clara, so he even relieves her of the task of reciting Friedrich Schiller's guarantee by heart at the roll call. He also works like crazy for good grades so that he can go to the school party with Clara.

Reviews

“Sitcom that pretends to tell the life of a childhood in the GDR by packing West stories told thousands of times into the concept of the American series Wonderful Years . You have to come to that first. "

- FAZ

“The record, the Trabi, the western package from Omi, director Ulli Baumann ( Rita's World ) brings out all the clichés about the GDR without making fun of them. Instead, he lets the action be commented off from the off, by Karl, who has now grown up. It's really funny because the series doesn't just focus on FDJ, flag roll call and forum checks , but only uses these weird things to negotiate more important things. The first love. The stupid siblings. The even more stupid teachers. Only when Karl raved about six weeks of summer vacation did he probably suppress something. In the GDR, the summer vacation lasted eight weeks. "

“The series describes the life of a thirteen-year-old East Berlin boy in 1983. The authors manage to tell in a very amusing and entertaining manner, yet lovingly and sensitively, about the hardships of puberty, the overwhelming power of first love. A successful program for the whole family, which also throws an unsentimental look back into the GDR era. "
