Ritas Welt is a German comedy series of five seasons (68 episodes in total), which was produced from 1998 to 2003 by Columbia TriStar (later Sony Pictures ) for the television station RTL .
action
The cashier Rita Kruse works together with her friend Gisela “Gisi” Wiemers, the butcher Berni Stemmer and the apprentice Kevin Bongartz (seasons 1–3) or Philip “Didi” Mertens (from season 3) in a branch of the fictional market chain Trispa in Cologne trinkets, which was called "Frispa" in the first episodes. Since the name had been protected by a real company, the name was changed. Her only thorn in the side: Branch manager Achim Schuhmann, an overly precise, downright pedantic man who, despite his own problems with his wife, always likes to face confrontations and with all kinds of regulations and paragraphs not only robs Rita of the last nerve.
In her private life , Rita struggles with her husband and two children: the owner of a motorcycle shop, Horst Kruse, is as moody as he is good-hearted; Daughter Sandra, who later embarks on a stay abroad in the USA , tries again and again to disregard her mother, and the baby Markus is in the middle of puberty .
Originally, Hella von Sinnen was supposed to take on the role of Rita Kruse , but she declined the offer because she did not want to play a straight woman. But she played in some episodes of the series in supporting roles.
production
The location for the branch was at Landmannstrasse 20 in Cologne-Ehrenfeld . At the time, a REWE local shop was in operation in the shop .
In the book Ein Schnupfen would have been enough , Gaby Köster describes how the shooting went. Here she also criticizes the circumstances of the individual shoots. There were z. B. long spoiled food was used as decoration and caused illnesses among those involved.
RTL wanted to continue producing the television series even after the end of the fifth season, as the repetition of episodes that had already been broadcast also achieved high ratings, but Gaby Köster declined the broadcaster's offer because she said she had no motivation for another production.
reception
Rita's World received several awards, including in 2000 the German Television Award as Best Series , the German Comedy Award as Best Sitcom and the Adolf Grimme Prize in the category Entertainment .
The series was also well received by German audiences, with viewers in some cases exceeding 7 million.
