Meinhard Plesken

Meinhard Plesken (born June 8, 1696 in Bremen ; † May 30, 1757 ) was a German Lutheran theologian, consistorial councilor and general superintendent of the general diocese of Lüneburg-Celle .

Life

Plesken, the son of a businessman, attended the cathedral school and , from 1712, the Evangelical-Lutheran grammar school in Bremen. In 1716 he moved to the University of Wittenberg and completed his studies in theology, which he completed with a master's degree. In 1720 he became sub-rector at the Athenaeum and the cathedral school in Bremen. In 1724 he refused an offer as rector to Stade. 1728 first pastor at the St. Nicolai Church in Stade , where he was also a member of the consistory from 1733 . In 1743 he received a call as the first pastor at the town church of St. Marien and general superintendent in Celle and held these offices until his death.

Plesken had been a member of the Royal German Society in Göttingen since 1740 . In 1748 he received his theological doctorate from the University of Göttingen .
