Life

His parents were Count Albert II of Gorizia and Euphemia von Mätsch . In 1338 he joined his two brothers Albert III. and Heinrich V. succeeded Johann Heinrich IV. von Gorizia in the county of Gorizia. From 1365 he ruled alone. Meinhard was completely at odds with his two brothers and was therefore unable to assert his claims to the County of Tyrol in 1363 . He could well diminish the power of the Patriarch of Aquileia , but the beneficiary of it was the Republic of Venice , which meant stark contrasts with the latter. Meinhard retired from Gorizia Castle to Bruck Castle in Lienz . Subsequently, Meinhard's behavior marked the turnaround for the slow decline of the Görzer Grafschaft, whereby pledges and sales also highlighted the devastating financial situation of the Görzer Princely House. Meinhard was also in conflict with his clerical neighbors, and because of the succession in the Duchy of Carinthia and in the County of Tyrol, he was in conflict with the Habsburgs .
