Henry VI. (Gorizia)

Henry VI. von Gorizia (* 1376 ; † 1454 ) was Gorizia count and imperial prince from the Meinhardin family . He also led the titles and offices of the Counts of Kirchberg , a Palatine of Carinthia , governor of Belluno and Feltre and one Provincial Governor of Krain .

Biographical

Heinrich's parents were Count Meinhard VI. and Utehild von Mätsch . In 1385 Heinrich succeeded his father as Count von Görz, but was under the guardian of the Bishop of Gurk, Johann IV. Von Mayrhofen . When Duke Albrecht of Austria came to Carinthia in 1387, he formed an alliance with the Gurk bishop as guardian of the Gorizians. When Count Heinrich came of age in 1393, the guardianship came to an end.

Since Heinrich was an "incorrigible drinker and gambler", the county experienced a rapid decline. The ruler signed a contract of inheritance over the Görzer Lands with the House of Habsburg . This increased the mood of the Duchy of Bavaria and the Republic of Venice . Heinrich von Görz was engaged to Elisabeth, the daughter of Duke Leopold of Austria , but he was married first to Elisabeth († 1426), a daughter of Count Hermann II. Von Cilli, and subsequently to Catharina von Gara , a daughter of Hungarian palatine Nicholas of Gara . After the death of his brother Johann Meinhard VII von Görz and Kirchberg , he inherited the county of Kirchberg in 1430 .

Heinrich von Görz was regarded as an “uncouth rude and drinker” who was a “tough opponent” of his second wife Catharina, as she was politically inclined to the Habsburgs, while he himself was a supporter of the Counts of Cilli .
