Johann II of Gorizia (* around 1433 ; † May 22, 1462 in Lienz ) was the penultimate prince of the Meinhardin family . Between the years 1454 and 1462 he was Count of Gorizia .

Life

Johann II was the eldest son of Count Heinrich VI. von Gorizia from his second marriage to Katharina von Gara , daughter of the Hungarian palatine Nikolaus von Gara .

Between the years 1444 and 1454 Johann II was hostage in Cilli . in the last year, terrified from being held hostage, he became the heir of his father as Count of Gorizia. Subsequently, he failed with his inheritance claims in the county of Ortenburg . After looting the same, he had to do without them for good and cede 12 castles as atonement, including his residence in Lienz, Bruck Castle . Count Johann II was married to Elisabeth von Cilli, the daughter of Count Ulrich von Cilli . There were no children from this marriage. The count was popular with his subjects, and they deeply mourned his death.
