Franz Babanitz

Franz Babanitz (born September 24, 1920 in Oberwaltersdorf , † August 16, 1991 in Neusiedl am See ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and President of the Burgenland Chamber of Labor . Babanitz was married, from 1962 to 1966 a member of the Burgenland Landtag and from 1966 to 1981 a member of the National Council .

education and profession

Babanitz was born as the son of the factory worker Josef Babanitz from Großhöflein and attended the secondary school in Guntramsdorf after primary school in Oberwaltersdorf . He then worked as an agricultural apprentice and farm worker in various farms from 1934 to 1940, and in 1940 he was obliged to do the Reich Labor Service . He then served in the Wehrmacht , where he was taken prisoner by the United States, from which he returned in 1946. After his return, Babanitz was employed as a pipe worker in the Austrian reed industry from 1947 to 1948, after which he became secretary in the Burgenland regional management of the union of construction and wood workers in 1948 . In 1957 he took over the office of chairman of the Burgenland regional health insurance fund , before becoming president of the Burgenland Chamber of Labor in 1961. Babanitz served as President of the Chamber of Labor until 1983.

politics

As early as 1948 Babanitz was councilor of the Burgenland Chamber of Labor, and he also represented the SPÖ from December 18, 1962 to April 27, 1966 in the Burgenland state parliament. He then moved to the National Council, to which he was a member from March 30, 1966. On June 30, 1981, Babanitz resigned from the National Council by renouncing his mandate. Within the party he was also active as a district committee member of the SPÖ Neusiedl am See , in 1962 he took over the role of SPÖ district party chairman. Furthermore, Babanitz was chairman of the ÖGB-Burgenland from 1961 to 1983.
