Meira Farkas

Meira Farkas (* 1945 in Arad , Romania) is a pianist living in Austria .

Life

Meira Farkas was born in Romania and then immigrated to Israel with her family at the age of 15. She then studied piano with Ilona Vincze-Kraus and chamber music with Ödön Pártos at the Tel Aviv Music Academy . She then lived in the USA for a few years and studied in New York at the Mannes College of Music and at the Juilliard Music School with Leonard Shure , Rosina Lhévinne and Ilona Kabos . As a guest at the gala concert for Arthur Rubinstein , she made one of her first appearances in Carnegie Hall . She took part in the Wilhelm Kempffs Beethoven master classes in Italy and was invited to the Chamber Music Festival in Prussia Cove (Cornwall, Great Britain) under the direction of Sándor Végh , to the Marlboro Music Festival (Marlboro, USA) and to the Tibor Varga Festival in Sion (Switzerland) .

In Austria the pianist a. a. in the Brahmsaal of the Wiener Musikverein, was a soloist at the Wiener Festwochen and at the Carinthian Summer (Ossiach, Austria).

Her repertoire includes works from the Classical and Romantic periods, with a focus on Franz Schubert .

Farkas stood u. a. with Itzhak Perlman , Rudolf Serkin and Pinchas Zukerman on stage. Till Fellner , the Chinese pianists Chih-Yu Chen and Catalina Butcaru are among her students.
