Till Fellner (born March 9, 1972 in Vienna ) is an Austrian pianist .

Life

Till Fellner studied at the Vienna Conservatory with Helene Sedo-Stadler . Further studies led him to Alfred Brendel , Meira Farkas , Oleg Maisenberg and Claus-Christian Schuster . In 1993 he won first prize at the International Clara Haskil Piano Competition in Vevey (Switzerland). In 1998 he received the Mozart Interpretation Prize from the Mozart Community in Vienna .

Till Fellner's repertoire ranges from the baroque to the present day. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music by JS Bach , WA Mozart , L. v. Beethoven , F. Schubert and Franz Liszt . But he also campaigned for musical rarities such as Julius Reubke's piano sonata . Fellner gave world premieres of works by Kit Armstrong , Hans Zender , Alexander Stankovski, Thomas Larcher and Harrison Birtwistle .

As a soloist he appears with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic , Vienna Philharmonic , the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest , the New York Philharmonic , Boston Symphony Orchestra , Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra .

The conductors Fellner has worked with include Claudio Abbado , Vladimir Ashkenazy , Herbert Blomstedt , Semyon Bychkov , Christoph von Dohnányi , Christoph Eschenbach , Bernard Haitink , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Manfred Honeck , Sir Charles Mackerras , Sir Neville Marriner , Kurt Masur , Kent Nagano , Jonathan Nott , Kirill Petrenko and Hans Zender .

He plays at festivals such as the BBC Proms London, Festival de la Roque d 'Anthéron, Hollywood Bowl Los Angeles, Ruhr Piano Festival, Lucerne Festival, Mostly Mozart Festival New York, Salzburg Festival, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Tanglewood Music Festival and Wiener Festwochen.

As a chamber musician Fellner works regularly with the tenor Mark Padmore , the Belcea Quartet , the violinist Lisa Batiashvili and the cellist Adrian Brendel .

From 2008-10 Fellner performed the 32 piano sonatas by L. v. Beethoven in a seven-part concert cycle in Vienna, London, Paris, New York, Washington DC and Tokyo. Among other things, he has performed the piano concertos No. 4 and 5 by L. v. Beethoven recorded with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Kent Nagano .

In 2009 Fellner had an appearance in the award-winning documentary by the two directors Lilian Franck and Robert Cibis , Pianomania . The film was very well received nationally and internationally, was celebrated at many festivals and included in the catalog of the Goethe Institute .

Since 2013 he has been teaching as a professor at the Zurich University of the Arts .

The 2016 recording of the piano quintet by J. Brahms with the Belcea Quartet won the Diapason d'or de l'année.

In 2019 Fellner was the jury president of the 62nd Busoni competition .
