Robert Cibis
Robert Cibis (born March 21, 1973 in Lippstadt ) is a German film director and producer , as well as transmedia producer and distributor. He lives in Paris, Cologne and Berlin.
Life
Cibis, brother of pianist Paul Cibis , first studied film studies in Rome and at the Nouvelle Sorbonne in Paris , which he graduated in 1997. He then learned film production in the master class at the Franco-German Film Academy, implemented by the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and the Paris Film Academy La fémis (see also: Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris ). In 2002 he received the young talent award of the Franco-German Journalism Award for the documentary Halbe Chance . The film was his first directorial collaboration with Lilian Franck , with whom he founded the production company OVALmedia in Berlin.
Cibis deals with scientific-medical topics and the health system. These include the television documentaries, Disgusting Healthy (2007), Patient as Prey (2009) or top-quality medicine - acupuncture, myth or therapy? or the movie trustWHO , of which he is the author and producer.
His most recent feature film, Fuck Fame, tells about an identity crisis of the electro rapper Uffie . It was nominated for the [German Documentary Film Prize] in 2019 and received the title “valuable”. Pianomania (2009) tells the search for the perfect sound and shows the nerve-racking collaboration between piano technician Stefan Knüpfer and star pianists such as Lang Lang , Till Fellner , Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Alfred Brendel . He was awarded the “Semaine de la Critique” prize at the Locarno International Film Festival , the Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival and the German Film Prize in the “best sound design” category. The German Film and Media Assessment also awarded the rating “particularly valuable”. Pianomania also received very good reviews abroad (see the articles in the New York Times (2011) and the Guardian (2010)).
Cibis expanded the OVALmedia label with the founding of companies in Cologne (2014), Paris (2018) and Rome (2018). The field of activity has grown to include film distribution since 2018. On February 1, 2018, OVALmedia organized 100 simultaneous discussion panels in Germany, which followed the 100 film screenings by Free Lunch Society . The film advocates an unconditional basic income . The debate was on "the future of our society". Six months later, the new Paris-based company launched the film in France with the same concept.
