OVALmedia is a group of companies that was founded in 1998 by the two filmmakers Robert Cibis and Lilian Franck . It includes OVALmedia Berlin GmbH, OVALmedia Cologne GmbH and the companies OVALmedia Paris SAS and OVALmedia Rome SRL, through which it operates as film production, film distribution and service production. The goal of Media Oval, "gripping stories transmedial to tell."

history

In 2003 the documentary Halbe Chance? , which Robert Cibis and Lilian Franck directed together for the first time, the Young Talent Award of the Franco-German Journalism Award .

In 2007, the two-part documentary series Disgustingly Healthy was published about medical treatment with leeches and maggots in collaboration with Michaela Kirst and won the Ekotopfilms award.

A year later, in cooperation with Matthias Luthardt ( ping-pong ) and Michaela Kirst, the film Jesus Loves You was made and was shown at the Berlinale , among other places .

The cinema documentary Pianomania was shown successfully in 25 countries in 2010 and received several awards, including the film award particularly valuable. In addition, Pianomania was nominated for the European film award. The humorous film about the search for the perfect sound shows the collaboration between piano technician Stefan Knüpfer and pianists such as Lang Lang , Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Alfred Brendel .

The documentary trustWHO , created in coproduction with Golden Girls Filmproduktion , about the influence of industry on the World Health Organization, celebrated its world premiere in 2017 at the festival for investigative films "Double Exposure" in the USA.

In 2018 OVALmedia coordinated the crowd premiere of “Free Lunch Society” for the first time as a cinema distributor. The film was shown simultaneously in 100 cinemas with 100 discussions across Germany on February 1st, and 11 annual basic income was raffled off at the same time. The film opened in France in September of the same year.
