The Master of Rieux ( French Maitre de Rieux ) is a Gothic sculptor in France in the 14th century. Between 1330 and 1350 he worked in the south-west in the area around Rieux-Volvestre near Toulouse . The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name after a cycle of sculptures that he created for the Lady Chapel of the Franciscan monastery in Toulouse. This was donated by Jean Tissandier, who was bishop of the Rieux diocese from 1324 to 1348, based in Rieux-Volvestre.

Eighteen figures from the Toulouse cycle have survived, sixteen of which are in the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse and two in the Musée Bonnat-Helleu in Bayonne . The tomb of Jean Tissandier created by the master is also preserved in the Musée des Augustins.

Numerous other works in the Toulouse and Languedoc area are ascribed to the master of Rieux . He is considered the most important Gothic sculptor of the 14th century in the region, his stylistic influence can be traced far into the regions bordering on the south. Typical of the master's style are a detailed depiction of hair and beard growth as well as the realistic folds of the clothes of his figures.
